A number of other large-scale studies on valsartan and related ARBs are expected to provide definitive results to answer open questions about the role of ARBs in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. The design feature of VALIANT, as a large modern trial testing both the direct comparison as well as the combination of an ACE inhibitor and ARB, ensures that its results will contribute substantially to our understanding of the benefits to post-MI patients provided by different RAAS inhibitor treatments.
